American City Business Journal, HBJ’s parent company, recently released a report that ranked the most affluent communities across the country based on a 12-part formula that includes household income, home values and education levels — as well as mansions with nine or more rooms.
Piney Point Village has the largest homes in Houston and the nation, according to ACBJ’s rankings. A whopping 82 percent of homes in this central Houston neighborhood have nine or more rooms.
Corporate executives with families seek executive homes and estates close to the urban core where they can entertain family, friends and clients. Inner city neighborhoods, particularly the villages, top ACBJ’s list of Houston’s largest homes. However, suburban neighborhoods like Sienna Plantation and Fulshear are also well represented in the rankings.
Master-planned communities, such as The Woodlands, Cinco Ranch and Friendswood, tend to have large homes, but they are offset by more traditional-sized homes, patio homes and townhomes that are favored by empty-nester buyers.
Here are the top 10 neighborhoods with the largest homes in the Bayou City, according to ACBJ:
- Piney Point Village: 82 percent of homes with nine or more rooms
- Hunters Creek Village: 73.4 percent
- Bunker Hill Village: 71.5 percent
- Taylor Lake Village: 51.3 percent
- Sienna Plantation: 49.8 percent
- Weston Lakes: 49.3 percent
- Fulshear: 46.5 percent
- Greatwood: 45.8 percent
- Southside Place: 43 percent
- West University Place: 41.8 percent
